The CACT Strike Committee has come out to deny the Councilor of Tourism of the Cabildo, Echedey Eugenio, after the meeting they held this Saturday in Jameos del Agua. "At no time was any economic issue discussed or addressed," say the workers' representatives. This is how they responded to the statement issued on Saturday morning by the Cabildo, in which Eugenio stated that the Committee conveyed to him at the meeting "their refusal to stop the protests until their demands are met and they are paid the amount of 1.5 million euros that they believe is owed to them."
"He was only asked, once again, to comply with the collective agreement of workers and to abide by the ruling of the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands," says the Committee. In addition, he adds that "Don Echedey knows that in order to stop the strike, there must be an act of good will on his part and comply with the above. And if the problem is the payment of the amounts illegally deducted from the payrolls of the workers, it can be done through a pro-rated payment plan over time."
Precisely a "gesture of good will" is what the counselor had publicly asked the workers, urging them to suspend the strike until they meet before the Canary Labor Court, after Eugenio requested the mediation of this body last Thursday.
In this regard, the Strike Committee recalls that "when the management filed a lawsuit for collective conflict, so that a third party would interpret" if they were entitled to "the collection of three extra-salary bonuses, when the worker was on vacation, they did not reconcile in the mediation act of this Court and preferred that the court rule." Now, they insist that the management "does not want to comply with or abide by" that ruling, issued by the Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands, which ruled in favor of the workers.
