The Arrecife City Council has subsidized the rent of housing for 70 young people in the capital during this year 2011. In this way, and through the Department of Housing of the capital's Consistory, which is under the tutelage of Joel Delgado, the corporation intends to collaborate with the young people of the capital in the payment of their homes "given the economic crisis that exists today, and that has especially hit the youth of Lanzarote."
According to Councilor Joel Delgado, "with these aids we try to alleviate the situation of many families in Arrecife whose youngest members are going through a difficult economic situation." In this sense, the Department of Youth has received a total of 92 applications throughout the year, of which 70 have been accepted and 22 were rejected.
The capital city councilor congratulated the young people awarded these financial aids and recalled that access to decent housing is one of the great pillars of the welfare state.
Delgado also highlighted the importance of the subsidies that the City Council grants to access housing adapted to the particularities of each family, "and that in this case are facilitating rental housing for these young people."
"Being aimed at young people with low income levels, the cost of renting these homes is subsidized in a percentage that adapts to the particular economic and family conditions of each awardee, reaching up to 50 percent of the monthly fee when the family situation is very precarious," explained Delgado.
