DEPENDING ON THE INCOME AND ASSETS LEVEL OF EACH INDIVIDUAL

The Cabildo will pay the residents' share in the rehabilitation of homes in Valterra and Titerroy

Will a agreement be signed with the Arrecife City Council to cover "100%" of the expenses for citizens "who are below certain income and asset levels"?

The Cabildo of Lanzarote will contribute the part that the residents of the 40 homes to be rehabilitated in Valterra and Titerroy had to pay. It will do so for those residents who are "below certain levels of income and assets." The amount corresponds to 7% of the investment that will be made in these works, which should have been contributed by the owners of these homes and which totals 300,000 euros.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, was pleased this Thursday with the signing last Monday of the agreements between the Arrecife City Council, the Ministry of Development and the Government of the Canary Islands for the areas of Regeneration and Urban Renovation of the Valterra and Titerroy neighborhoods, within the framework of the State Plan for the Promotion of Housing Rental, Building Rehabilitation and Urban Regeneration and Renovation.

For the rehabilitation of these 40 homes, just over 4.3 million euros will be allocated, of which the Ministry will contribute 35%, the Government of the Canary Islands 30% and the City Council 28% of said cost. The remaining 7%, some 300,000 euros, had to be contributed by the individuals of these 40 homes. In this regard, San Ginés has announced that "the Cabildo of Lanzarote will assume the part of the individuals who cannot contribute said economic cost, as it committed to the affected residents of these neighborhoods of the capital, as well as with the Arrecife City Council to collaborate in these rehabilitation plans."

Depending on income and assets

However, San Ginés has explained that the intention of the Corporation will be to sign an agreement with the City Council so that only those citizens who are below certain levels of income and assets will benefit from the aid.

"In short, the Cabildo of Lanzarote guarantees that it will enable 100% of the part corresponding to the residents and the items will be allocated for that purpose, if all the affected residents need it," he explained. San Ginés added that "if any resident exceeds the income or asset levels that are established and, therefore, does not have access to the aid from the Cabildo of Lanzarote, the remaining item would reduce the contribution made by the Arrecife City Council."

On the other hand, the president has pointed out that in the previous budgets of the Corporation, different items were contemplated for the residents of these homes and has detailed that "in 2012, the rents of some families who had to be evicted due to the danger of collapse of these homes were paid."  "During the past year, another earmarked subsidy of more than 200,000 euros was also allocated to the Arrecife City Council for this purpose and another 90,000 euros will be contributed this year," he said.
