The Cabildo of Lanzarote has put out to tender the contracting, through an open procedure, of the waste management service at the island's clean points with an estimated base bidding budget amounting to 2,661,762.36 euros, including IGIC.

According to the terms and technical specifications, the purpose of contracting this service is to ensure the correct operation of the clean points currently on the Island and, ultimately, the proper management of waste voluntarily contributed by citizens.

Specifically, attention will be paid to the management of the four points located in the municipalities of Arrecife, San Bartolomé, Tías and Yaiza, in addition to the clean point of Costa Teguise, whose works are about to be completed. Regarding the duration of the contract, it is set at 4 years, with an extension of 1 year, which may be agreed by the Contracting Body.

"We avoid uncontrolled and illegal dumping"

The Councilor for Waste, Carmen Rosa Márquez, states that "the management of waste at the clean points not only allows the citizens of our island to separate the waste generated in their own homes, especially hazardous and highly polluting waste, and for it to be deposited in safe enclosures, but we also avoid uncontrolled and illegal dumping, while enabling the use of materials, recycling and saving energy".

Companies interested in submitting their proposals for this tender can do so until February 24. Information regarding this contract is published on the Electronic Tendering portal and in the contractor profile of the Island Council of Lanzarote.

Construction of new clean points

The clean points are free centers for the selective collection of waste of different nature, generated in homes and voluntarily contributed by individuals, with the purpose of facilitating its selective collection, as well as the correct management thereof.

"During this year 2019, two new clean points are planned to be built in the municipalities of Tinajo and Haría, which will be added to the one in Costa Teguise", explains the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés. "For the execution of these projects", he adds, "the Cabildo has a subsidy of 1.1 million euros granted by the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Sustainability and Security of the Government of the Canary Islands".

"Precisely", as announced by San Ginés, "in the coming weeks the construction works of the new clean point located in the tourist town of Costa Teguise are expected to conclude. Works that have involved an investment of 418,457.75 euros.
