The Cabildo of Lanzarote has expressed its condolences for the death of the Adopted Son of Lanzarote Agustín Pallarés Padilla. The island's president, María Dolores Corujo, has conveyed on behalf of the Corporation her "most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones."
“We regret the death of Agustín Pallarés Padilla, who dedicated a long life to our Island and who, despite not being born in Lanzarote territory, was welcomed by us as at home and the Island and many of its generations benefited from his teachings in diverse fields such as history, culture, tourism or the conejera toponymy,” Dolores Corujo highlighted.
“We appreciate all his work, his publications and the great mark he has left behind on an Island that will always have him as an Adopted Son,” the president concluded.
Agustín Pallarés Padilla was born in La Oliva in 1928, but has been closely linked to Lanzarote and the island of Alegranza since he was young. In 2016 he was declared Adopted Son of Lanzarote as “an indisputable reference in the work of compiling, investigating and arguing the toponymy of Lanzarote and its islets, continuously, tirelessly and seriously from the 60s of the last century to the present day”. He was also the town crier of the San Ginés Festivities of Arrecife in 1999.
On the other hand, the Board of Official Chroniclers of the Canary Islands awarded Agustín Pallarés Padilla the title of "Memorialist 2015", describing him as “researcher, chronicler and teacher of our history”.
