The Lanzarote Council, through the Department of Social Welfare and Inclusion, has decided to create the Social Inclusion and Intervention Service. A proposal that arises from the need to offer a "response in accordance" with the social needs of a part of the population.
For Acuña it is of "utmost importance that the Lanzarote Council works from sensitivity", and in this sense, "understanding that given the current economic circumstances many people may be on the verge of social exclusion and that we are living in complicated times, it is necessary to get even closer to the citizen, understand them and offer alternatives because nobody likes to be in such a critical situation."
"This new service is created to complement and support the work that is already being done in the town councils, since we believe that working transversally with the different institutions will help to give a more adjusted response to this reality," he adds.
The service was born from an internal reflection process of the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion of the Lanzarote Council to detect these needs, and is made up of four social workers and three administrative staff. The work will start with a prior coordination with the teams of professionals of the town councils to evaluate and monitor people at risk of exclusion.
Specialized advice will be offered to process economic aid for social emergencies, especially linked to alleviating the problem of housing emergency that is causing the rise in rents and the impossibility of accessing a home. In addition, information will be provided on aid aimed at covering basic needs of the first order.
Likewise, among the objectives of this innovative service, the team of professionals will offer information aimed at the active job search in collaboration with labor insertion entities, as well as with those companies that are looking to expand their staff.
