The Cabildo of Lanzarote definitively approved this Monday its General Budget consolidated for the year 2021, its Execution Bases, Personnel Template and Annexes, during the extraordinary and urgent plenary session held by the Corporation.

The president, María Dolores Corujo, highlighted "the great effort made by the Institution to approve the 2021 Budget, despite the difficulties involved in the pandemic situation we are experiencing." The accounts of the first Institution amount to 183,796,860.26 euros, which represents an increase of 4.93% compared to the previous year.

Corujo stressed that "these budgets guarantee real answers to the real needs of the island society in the face of a crisis situation generated by the unprecedented pandemic." Thus, these accounts are structured around four major blocks, such as Social Welfare, Job Creation, Housing and Public Works.

According to the president, these budgets also reflect "the extraordinary effort made by the Institution to launch a line of support for self-employed workers and micro-enterprises, which will start with an allocation of six million euros," as well as the increase of one million euros in the item of the Security and Emergency Consortium to reach 3.2 million euros, and that of 2.7 million euros in the care of minors and dependency, respectively.

The president also highlighted the increase registered in the items destined to social policies, and the content of the Strategic Plan of Subsidies, which includes aid for a total of 40,455,602.45 million euros, despite the decrease in income due to the so-called financing block of the Government of the Canary Islands in 14 million euros.

Dolores Corujo explained, finally, that "the Cabildo will be able to have up to one hundred million euros in remnants when the 2020 budget is settled and that "soon a credit operation will be formalized for 30 million euros more to face the brutal economic recession caused by the pandemic."
