The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Public Works, has awarded the company Homigones Insulares, S.L. the works for the rehabilitation of the pavement in the Los Dolores area, in Mancha Blanca. These works began this Wednesday, August 31, and will be allocated 168,265.57 euros from the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN) and own funds.
The project, which has been possible thanks to the inter-administrative collaboration with the Tinajo City Council, is part of the line of action of the program to improve municipal infrastructures to provide better service to citizens and help improve Canarian competitiveness. The execution period of the actions is one month, although the first phase of the works is expected to be completed this Friday, August 2.
"We have fulfilled our commitment and have been able to resolve an important demand that has been made by the Tinajo City Council in recent years," said the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, who this Wednesday made a visit to Mancha Blanca to check the start of the works, accompanied by the Minister of Public Works of the institution, Alfredo Mendoza, and the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín.
As Corujo pointed out, in addition to the pavement conditioning, the Cabildo has also "resolved to help and accompany to paint the Los Dolores hermitage".
"I appreciate the involvement of the Minister of Public Works, as well as the predisposition of the mayor of Tinajo" to facilitate and help these works to be carried out in the time that is planned for the most important festival in Lanzarote," added the president of the Cabildo.
For his part, the Minister of Public Works of the island corporation, Alfredo Mendoza, explained that this area is used for various daily activities in Mancha Blanca, as well as for parking for residents and visitors. "In addition, every year and on the occasion of the festivities held in honor of the Virgen de Los Dolores, the traditional Craft Fair organized by the Cabildo of Lanzarote is installed in this enclosure," Mendoza pointed out.
"Currently, this road is in a very poor state of conservation, with the presence of potholes, sinkholes and small collapses of the road surface, as it has not been subject to general or superficial improvement of the pavement for many years," the Minister detailed.
The solution contemplates the rehabilitation of the area to improve the safety of vehicle and pedestrian traffic, given that there have been several falls in the area.
"Today has been a special day, in which the president of the Cabildo, Maria Dolores Corujo, and the Minister of Public Works, Alfredo Mendoza, have come to Mancha Blanca to see first-hand the paving works on the ramp from the church to the Craft Fair," said the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, who also thanked both "for the collaboration to carry out the painting in the hermitage," indicating that he hopes "that this will also be the case on the road from Tinguatón to Los Dolores".
"I am very happy because the Cabildo has always fulfilled its commitments to our municipality. Once again, the president has shown me that I can trust her. I have full confidence that the agreed commitments will be fulfilled as until now because I believe in her word. Thank you," he concluded.
