The Governing Council of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved the call for subsidies for competitive cultural projects for the years 2021-2022 for an amount of 100,000 euros, which represents an increase of 25% compared to the last call, which was in 2017.

After its publication in the BOP in the coming days, a period of 30 business days will be opened for local creators to present their proposals. Those interested can carry out all their procedures on the website https://proyectosculturaleslanzarote.fulp.es/ thanks to an agreement signed between the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the University Foundation of Las Palmas. The website will be operational on the first business day to present the projects.

The president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, is confident that this call for proposals "will contribute to improving the situation of the cultural industry and, at the same time, allow the island's population to continue enjoying good cultural projects in the near future."

For his part, the Minister of Culture, Alberto Aguiar, highlights "the 25% increase in the amount allocated to aid" with which he wants to "give a boost to island creativity."

Aids since the beginning of the pandemic

According to the institution, this public call is part of the strategy designed by the government group of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to face the socioeconomic consequences generated by COVID-19, "which has jeopardized the way of life we know."

In this regard, it is pointed out that, since the beginning of the pandemic in March of last year, the Cabildo has injected more than half a million euros into the cultural sector, specifically, 588,000 euros, as a result of the sum of the 100,000 euros of the aforementioned call for Competitive Cultural Projects; of the 86,000 euros granted in nominated subsidies and direct aid to local creators and groups, and of the 402,428.38 euros destined to the organization and implementation of own events.

Of the latter, the 181,335.45 euros invested in performing arts projects stand out; the 78,795.64 euros dedicated to the implementation of exhibitions and workshops and the more than 60,000 euros destined to the hiring of specialized technical personnel.

"This government group will continue working to try to alleviate the devastating effects of the pandemic on society as a whole, especially on the most disadvantaged groups and those productive sectors that we consider strategic for the well-being of the population," guarantees Corujo.
