Despite the criticism from various political groups for calling a plenary session coinciding with the Women's Day strike, the Teguise City Council has held the session it had called for this Friday, although, yes, with the absences of the councilors from Somos and PSOE.
In the case of Somos Lanzarote, its councilors denounced the "false feminism" of CC and registered a petition to request the postponement of the plenary session, a claim that Unidos por Lanzarote also made through a press release, considering that it was not the appropriate day to hold a plenary session, in addition, "empty of content."
"The mayor once again shows the lack of sensitivity that exists among the barons of the Canarian Coalition with feminist demands. In fact, it is enough to verify that all the heads of the list of this badly named nationalist party for the local and regional elections of May 26 are men, leaving a residual role to women," said the president of Unidos por Lanzarote, Laureano Álvarez.
However, the former PIL councilor and current councilor of the non-attached group, Sandra Tolosa, who is now vice president of the Unidos por Lanzarote Committee in Teguise, has attended the plenary session.
PSOE: "The urgency of the plenary session is unsustainable and goes against the spirit of 8M"
"The urgency of the extraordinary Plenary session is unsustainable and goes against the spirit and demands of 8M," said the socialist candidate for Mayor of Teguise, Marcos Bergaz, who in a press release already announced that the PSOE was not going to attend the plenary session.
"The reason for the call is an ordinance of subsidies that had to be there months ago and that the 12 councilors of the Canarian Coalition with Oswaldo Betancort at the head have been unable to approve before, as well as the registration and deregistration of councilors notified with less than twenty-four hours in advance," he questioned
Bergaz criticized that the plenary session had been convened "at the last minute, in a hurry, without documentation and without a prior informative commission." "This is a new example of improvisation and lack of transparency, the usual ways of this government group that already in the past plenary session delivered part of the documentation 48 hours after the plenary session," he pointed out.
The justification of the government group
For the government group, the councilor Antonio Callero has defended that it was a "necessary and urgent" plenary session, since the bases of the general subsidies were going to be approved in it, which will allow the sports subsidies to be carried out. "And we were tight on deadlines and time," the councilor pointed out, to justify why the call has not been changed. "And the Government of Pedro Sánchez is going to hold a Council of Ministers today," he said before the celebration of the Teguise plenary session on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, where he questioned the position of the PSOE in the municipality.
In addition, Callero has stated that an institutional declaration supporting equality and the fight of women has been approved in the plenary session. "We wanted to give the greatest visibility to this day with the approval of this institutional declaration in the highest municipal representation body, which is the plenary session."
