The Social Welfare area of the Cabildo has allocated 467,710.62 euros to attend to almost 1,800 applications for benefits aimed at alleviating the effects of covid-19 on families in a situation of special vulnerability or extreme risk. Specifically, the Economic Benefits Service of this department has managed a total of 1763 requests derived from municipal social services since the beginning of the health crisis, 1475 of them during the state of alarm. Of these, 1086 came from the municipality of Arrecife.
The aid has been made effective either through a bank transfer for amounts ranging between 403 and 806 euros, or through a rechargeable shopping card with a value of between 50 and 215 euros, depending on the socio-economic reality of each family unit, which was used for the acquisition of basic necessities and pharmacy products not covered by Social Security.
The Councilor for Social Welfare of the First Island Institution, Isabel Martín Tenorio, explains that the objective of these emergency aid is to "provide support to municipal social services and collaborate with the most disadvantaged families to face a situation as complex and extraordinary as the one we are experiencing. It is about", insists the councilor, "making the daily burden more bearable and helping to combat the economic, but also social and emotional, consequences of a virus that has put the resistance of our way of life in check."
Also supplies and rentals
In addition, it should be noted that the commission that analyzes the applications for aid submitted by the municipal social services to cover rental and supply expenses has processed 162 files during the last two months.
