MIAC-Castillo de San José, on the occasion of Museum Day, has organized an open day this Wednesday, May 18.
For this reason, those who wish to do so may have free access to the emblematic space that shelters the work of contemporary national and international authors such as Antoni Tàpies, José Guerrero, Manuel Mompó, Canogar and Gustavo Torner, as well as Canarian artists of the stature of César Manrique, Óscar Domínguez, Manolo Millares and Juan Hildago. The Museum's visiting hours are from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
From the Tourist Centers they point out that the International Museum Day is an event that has been celebrated since 1977 with the aim of offering museums and their professionals the opportunity to get closer to the public and society, to make them participants in the changes that museum institutions develop as institutions at the service of society.
The open day, despite the opening hours to the public, starts at 10:30 a.m. And it is that at that moment the inauguration of an exhibition of the projects participating in the 1st School Exhibition Design Contest will take place, in which the CEIP Antonio Zerolo de Arrecife, César Manrique Cabrera de Tahíche, El Quintero de San Bartolomé and Alcalde Rafael Cedrés de Tías have taken part. From the Tourist Centers they explain that this informative initiative has turned the teachers and students of 4th, 5th and 6th grade of Primary Education of these centers "into professionals of plastic and visual arts capable of thinking, creating, installing and managing an exhibition in their educational center." During the morning the first two prizes of the contest and two accésits will be awarded.
In addition, in the afternoon, students from IES Agustín Espinosa and CIFP Zonzamas will play the role of guides of the MIAC - Castillo de San José explaining some works belonging to the Permanent Collection for all those visitors to the MIAC.
The CEO of the Tourist Centers, Benjamín Perdomo, encourages the population of the island "to enjoy a festive day that aims to be a reflection on the role that museums should play in the construction of the society of the future."
