San Borondón has finally broken the silence this Wednesday and explained the reasons that have led him to terminate the electoral agreement he had with Coalición Canaria, whom he accuses of having breached the "contract" they signed before the elections. In a statement, the party begins by revealing that this decision was actually adopted more than three weeks ago, in an Island Assembly held on November 15, which only had this point on the agenda.
"It was decided unanimously by those present to terminate said electoral coalition," explains the formation, which has "apologized" for the "delay in the explanations" about this rupture, which has materialized this week with the writings that have been registered both in the Cabildo and in the town halls of Arrecife and Tías, which are the three institutions where the coalition presented lists with candidates from San Borondón.
"The main reason has been the breach of contract after the signing of our agreement on February 10, 2019, where the obligations and objectives to be met by both parties are reflected," the party begins by pointing out. In this regard, it denounces that this breach occurred from the beginning, since CC did not communicate to the Electoral Board that the candidacy should be registered as an electoral coalition with the acronyms of the three formations, including San Borondón and the PNC.
Surprise upon seeing the electoral ballots
According to them, it was when they saw the electoral ballots that they learned that it had not been registered in this way. "We went to Coalición Canaria to give us the appropriate explanations, and they give us excuses for answers," they add, pointing out that "they no longer had time to break the agreement." In addition, they affirm that they have transferred what happened to the State Electoral Board, where they have sent the agreement to be able to claim their rights as a party within that coalition, which would be important in view of the situation in which their two public positions remain: the councilor of the Cabildo Juan Manuel Sosa and the councilor of Arrecife Carlos Alférez.
In addition, San Borondón clarifies that they have already addressed Sosa and Alférez to "comply" and "make effective" this rupture, and they recall that both "have signed a loyalty contract while they are public office by our political organization". Similarly, they assure that the breaches "and other violated promises" that have led them to the rupture had also been transferred to the general secretary of CC in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, who this Wednesday questioned the "little decorum" of San Borondón and assured that she had learned of their decision through the press. "She has not given us any solution during these months," they lament from the party, which assures that this has motivated "the loss of confidence placed in Coalición Canaria".
"We have been treated like the enemy"
In addition, they add to this other "humiliations" that they claim to have suffered during this time. On the one hand, they affirm that the candidate proposed by Coalición Canaria in Tías, Amado Vizcaíno, opposed the president of San Borondón, Jerónimo Robayna, being number two on the list in that municipality, "again breaching the electoral agreement".
"Our representatives to this day in said municipality have felt humiliated, ignored and despised by the conduct of said councilor, without the representatives of the Insular de Coalición Canaria having acted before, during, or after the elections to prevent it," they lament.
Similarly, they also question what happened in the municipality of Yaiza, where they assure that the local committee of CC "flatly refused to place the person designated by San Borondón in the fifth place on the electoral lists, again breaching the coalition agreement signed by both parties". In both municipalities, the party considers that Coalición Canaria has not treated them "as a partner, but as the enemy that had to be watched".
