The San Bartolomé City Council will incorporate sign language interpreters in the municipal plenary sessions, a measure promoted by the Canarian Coalition (CC) and approved in the plenary session held this Wednesday.
"This initiative responds to the nationalist group's commitment to accessibility and inclusion, guaranteeing that all people can follow and participate in municipal debates," the party declares.
The local secretary of the Canarian Coalition and councilor in the City Council, Eduardo Díaz, has positively valued the approval of this motion, emphasizing that “it is a fundamental step towards a more inclusive municipality, where all people, regardless of their condition, have full access to information and local political life.”
However, not all the proposals presented by the Canarian Coalition had the same fate. The plenary session rejected the motion regarding the transfer of municipal land to the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the expansion of spaces and the execution of new infrastructures destined for the San Bartolomé Football Club. “It is incomprehensible that the government group does not support an initiative that would benefit more than 350 boys and girls who train in insufficient facilities,” Díaz lamented.
Likewise, the CC proposal for the implementation of a rat extermination campaign in Playa Honda was rejected, given the growing proliferation of rodents in the area. “The residents have been denouncing the situation for months and the municipal government still does not act. We will continue to insist until measures are taken,” says the nationalist councilor.
In the section of requests and questions, the Canarian Coalition has also requested in the plenary session held today, that the municipal signage and posters be replaced where the denomination “CEIP El Quintero” still appears, instead of the official name “CEIP Alexis Tejera Lemes”, as was approved unanimously in a previous plenary session.
