The San Bartolomé City Council places a network of signs at the entrances to the town to transmit the commitment against gender violence and the fight for equality, as 'Municipality committed against gender violence'. It is an initiative that is part of the events scheduled for this 25N, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. A recognition of local police officers of the municipality also took place this Thursday, for their work in monitoring and protecting victims of gender violence.

The project is promoted by the Unit Against Violence against Women of the Island Directorate of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, in collaboration with the Department of Equality of the City Council of San Bartolomé and financed by the Ministry of Equality.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, emphasizes that "this project symbolizes the firm commitment of our municipality in the fight against gender violence and in the promotion of equality. Placing these signs at the entrances is a visible and clear action that reaffirms our commitment as a 'Municipality committed against gender violence'. Every step we take in this direction is essential to raise awareness and offer a message of hope to all victims of violence."

For her part, the Councilor for Equality and Youth, Mónica de León, states that "the signs that are installed are not only a visual element, but a declaration of principles that unites us as a community. Thanks to the collaboration with the Unit Against Violence against Women and the Ministry of Equality, we are taking an important step in raising awareness and protecting all women in our municipality."

This initiative arose through the meeting held by the City Council with the island director of the State Administration, Pedro Viera, and the head of the Unit Against Violence against Women, Margara Bello, where, among other issues, the proposal to express the commitment against gender violence through a signage network was presented, aimed at those municipalities that want to join this initiative, which will be financed by the State Administration.
