San Bartolomé currently has a total of 33 used oil containers, located at different points in each of the municipality's towns. From the Council they point out that "the population is making more and more use of them, aware of the serious effects of mixing oil with water, and pouring household oils down the drains."

The City Council informs that they have been placed after a bidding procedure in which the company Sertego Servicios Medioambientales S.L.U. was awarded the contract, which will offer this service for two years, and an award amount of 17,380 euros, having to take care of "the collection, transport, storage and valorization of the same in accordance with the applicable legislation, as well as "installing the necessary containers on public roads for the provision of the service, cleaning, maintaining and replacing the containers".

Alexis Tejera explains that, "taking into account the correct use that the neighborhood makes of the household vegetable oil collection service, with the new contract recently tendered, we have gone from a total of 17 collection points to a total of 33, with orange containers located in crucial points of all the payments of the municipality, being able to reach a total of 38 that will be located according to the needs that arise".

From the Council point out that the neighbors store the used vegetable oil in the homes in plastic containers, "once full, they close them, clean the outside of the container and deposit them in the orange containers. Subsequently, the company awarded the service is responsible for the transfer and treatment to proceed with recycling.

"With this we intend to reduce the amount of household oil that is poured through sinks or toilets, intending to facilitate the system of selective collection of used oils in order to protect the environment, thus avoiding spillage into the public sewage system. This increase is due to the demand for containers due to the good use that the neighborhood is making by recycling household oil", highlights the Councilor for Waste, Raúl De León.
