José Francisco Reyes has resigned from his position as vice president of the Nationalist Party of Lanzarote (PNL), as well as his position as councilor in the Yaiza City Council and even his membership as a supporter of this formation. His imprisonment for the alleged scheme for granting illegal licenses in Playa Blanca has been the trigger for the former PNL politician to decide to leave his party.
Reyes sent a document requesting his resignation to the PNL Island Executive, which approved this Wednesday afternoon said request. Likewise, the former mayor of Yaiza sent another letter to this City Council in which he resigned from his position as councilor.
The problem is that Reyes has been in the Tahíche prison since October 1, so it is unknown how he could resign as councilor of the southern Consistory. Not even the mayor herself, Gladys Acuña, knows how this resignation could occur.
And Reyes was sent to prison by order of the magistrate of the Court of Instruction Number 2 of Arrecife. After taking his statement on the 4th for several hours, four days after his arrest, the judge ordered provisional imprisonment for Reyes, who is charged with alleged crimes of bribery, embezzlement of funds, urban prevarication, influence peddling and money laundering.
