The repair work of a slope located on a curve of the Volcano Route begins. The Tourist Centers have started the recovery work of the land that is deformed and cracked due to the constant pressure of the tires of the buses on the pavement and the land.
The intervention, which has all the relevant authorizations and permits, will consist of stabilizing the slope by executing a riprap wall faced with unhewn stone blocks to support the embankment, and the subsequent filling of the resulting gaps with concrete, reads a statement issued by the Tourist Centers. Before that, the area will be cordoned off and protected to avoid any possible contamination of the volcanic flow.
The CEO of the Tourist Centers, Benjamín Perdomo, has assured that the objective of the intervention is to "provide greater security very soon to one of the most impressive tourist routes in the world," he stressed. "Visitors to Montañas del Fuego will be able to admire the amazing formations created by the lava after the Timanfaya eruptions again, enjoying greater and better safety conditions," he stressed.
Perdomo has apologized for the inconvenience that this intervention, "so necessary after years of neglect," could generate among the center's visitors and has announced that "an alternative route has been enabled so that our visitors continue to take the best memory of their experience in Montañas del Fuego." The intervention, which is estimated to be completed in a few days, has a budget of around 40,000 euros.
