The Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands has reached a new Bilateral Commission agreement to invest 19,202,101 euros transferred by the State to modernize, rehabilitate and adapt 952 homes in the public park and convert them "into energy efficient properties." Among them, smaller developments located in the municipality of Tías.

This new item comes from the Next Generation funds, specifically the Program of Residential Environments of Programmed Rehabilitation (ERRP) to modernize and condition homes to the new energy efficiency requirements demanded by the European Union to limit CO2 emissions.

The Minister of Public Works Sebastián Franquis signed this Monday, together with the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda, this new agreement that adds to the two that were already signed in 2022 and at the beginning of this year for which the Autonomous Community has committed nearly 53 million euros to reform a total of 2,712 homes, both public and private, thanks to this program. With this third signed batch, a total of 3,664 homes will be rehabilitated following energy efficiency criteria and with a global investment of 72 million euros.

With the 19.2 million euros that were signed yesterday, the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI) plans to act on six large developments in Añaza (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) as well as in several smaller developments distributed by Puerto del Rosario, Betancuria, La Oliva, Tías, Mogán, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Gáldar, Santa Brígida, Valsequillo and Artenara.

With the nearly 53 million agreed with the first two batches of these ERRPs, and which have served to start the contracting of the works projects, the aforementioned 2,712 homes, both public and private, will be rehabilitated. In this case, the bulk of the investment will be executed through the city councils that also contribute a part of their own funds. The Canary Island city councils that have joined this ERRP program, and to which the ICAVI has already transferred 40.2 million euros, are those of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, La Laguna and Telde.

These four municipalities will attend, thanks to these ERRP funds, to a total of 2,090 private homes that are distributed among the neighborhoods of: Jinámar (Telde) with 372 houses; Nueva Paterna (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) with 899 houses; Añaza (Santa Cruz de Tenerife), with 381 houses; and El Cardonal (La Laguna), 438 houses. The new ERRPs replace, in part, the rehabilitation actions of deteriorated neighborhoods that until now were financed with the Areas of Regeneration and Urban Renovation (ARRU) and that were executed by the city councils themselves.

In addition to these privately owned houses, 622 homes in the public park of the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI) will also be attended to with these first two batches. The public housing that will benefit from this intervention is located in the municipalities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, Adeje, El Rosario, Candelaria, San Mateo, Firgas, Moya, La Orotava and La Laguna.
