The president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Astrid Pérez, has denounced the discrimination that the Government of Spain is exercising against the citizens of both islands in matters of external health, by not effectively providing this service on the island and forcing residents to travel to Gran Canaria to be able to access the necessary vaccines to travel to some international destinations
Astrid Pérez explains that the Ministry of Health's own appointment system evidences this inequality, since "when a citizen requests an appointment through the official website, the only option offered is to go to a vaccination center in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, without even the possibility of getting vaccinated in Lanzarote".
"Lanzarote is not even considered as an option in the appointment system. That is to say, the State assumes from the outset that the citizens of these islands must travel to Gran Canaria to receive a basic service," denounced the island president of the PP
This situation forces the residents of Lanzarote and La Graciosa "to lose a day of work and assume the economic extra cost" that the transfer entails, which causes a disruption and an added harm that violates the principle of equality between citizens and especially punishes the non-capital islands. "We are not asking for privileges, we are asking for equality. The citizens of Lanzarote and La Graciosa cannot continue to be treated as second-class citizens simply for living on a non-capital island and paying, as in the case of the Graciosa residents, a triple insularity," he emphasizes.
From the Popular Party it is considered unacceptable that an island with a population of almost 170,000 people and significant tourist activity lacks an operational Health Service Abroad, while this is provided normally on other islands of the Archipelago.
Astrid Pérez announces that the Popular Party will demand that Sánchez's Government immediately rectify the setback that this vaccination service has experienced and provide the island with the human and material resources necessary to guarantee a dignified and accessible External Health service
