The nationalists Oswaldo Betancort and Cristina Calero have taken possession of their act as deputies of the Parliament of the Canary Islands. Their incorporation occurs after Pedro San Ginés and Migdalía Machín resigned from their positions in the Regional Chamber to become senator and regional minister, respectively.
Last week the news was confirmed that the former president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote Pedro San Ginés would become a senator, elected by the nationalist group in the Parliament of the Canary Islands. This departure was added to that of Migdalia Machín, who resigned from her seat as regional deputy to become Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation, Culture and Heritage of the Canarian Executive formed by the Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party.
Therefore, their places in the Chamber would be for the next two candidates on the list of the Canarian Coalition to the Parliament for Lanzarote in the elections of May 28: the current president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the nationalist Cristina Calero. During the inauguration of their act, they were received by the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Ástrid Pérez.
This is the first time that Calero, former councilor of the Arrecife City Council, will sit in the seat of the Canarian deputies. However, it is the second legislature for Betancort.
