The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, will head the list to the Cabildo as an independent for Nueva Canarias Frente Amplio. This was announced by Román Rodríguez and Óscar Noda himself at the press conference that took place this Wednesday where they presented the electoral alliance they have signed for the upcoming elections on May 28.

"I have the honor and also the responsibility because I am fulfilling the mandate of my own Local Committee, the Executive Committee of Unidos Por Yaiza, with unanimous support I present my candidacy to the Island Council of Lanzarote," announced Noda, followed by applause from the attendees.

"Now, the people of Lanzarote and Graciosa will have the opportunity to elect Óscar Noda as a president of the Cabildo for Nueva Canarias with a serious, rigorous plan and project in defense of the general interest that Lanzarote and La Graciosa need," said Román Rodríguez.

"Unidos por Yaiza (UpY) and Nueva_Canarias are sister forces that had to understand each other. Today we can announce that the dialogue has been fruitful, reaching the best electoral agreement for the progress of Yaiza, Lanzarote, La Graciosa and the Canary Islands," added the president of Nueva Canarias

Noda stressed that the purpose of the new agreement with NC is to extrapolate the municipal management model that “in recent years has made Yaiza considered one of the best municipalities and has recovered its good name”. “Just as we have a plan for Yaiza, we have a plan for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, a project that will pursue the many improvements that we still need in Health, Education, Social Welfare and the third sector, which will be our programmatic bases, but also with firm commitments to the Island Plan and the primary sector, to guarantee water for the agricultural sector, housing for our citizens and sustainability, without forgetting territorial planning, where in Lanzarote there are still so many things pending”, said Noda, who has warned that the joint work of NC and UPY “will be developed with zero tension”.

The current vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands and the mayor of Yaiza have signed a document with the bases of the agreement in which the two top leaders of both formations have put their signature.

The event, which has also served for the opening, from 5:00 p.m., of the new UPY headquarters in Playa Blanca, was attended by the UPY Executive Committee, the municipal candidates of the Canaristas and the NC candidate for Lanzarote and La Graciosa to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Yoné Caraballo. The national president of the Canaristas, Román Rodríguez, who has valued “the processes of confluence and leadership of Nueva Canarias” and also “the autonomy with which both political forces join after having spoken and listened to each other for months”, has stressed that “we have signed so far about thirty political and electoral agreements to add with other political forces through transformative municipalism, more than a dozen of them in the last year, with the intention of putting politics at the interest of the majority, to improve with work and perseverance the life of the citizen of Lanzarote, La Graciosa and all the Canary Islands”.

Román Rodríguez recalled that this is not the first time that NC and UPY have reached a political and electoral agreement. In past elections, as a result of these relations that both formations have maintained for years of respect and joint work for citizen welfare, which is the basic meaning of this new and exciting agreement, alliances were also configured at the time that ended up being reflected in the City Council of Yaiza and the Parliament of the Canary Islands itself.
