Óscar Noda proposes expanding the roads between Tahíche and Arrieta and those that connect Arrecife and Playa Blanca

At the same time, the councilor invites us to think about the growth of the vehicle fleet on the island: "It is excessive in a fragile and sensitive territory"

The councilor of the Mixed-NC Group in the Island Council of Lanzarote, Óscar Noda, has presented a motion for the next plenary session to debate "initiating the relevant studies" for the planning, projection and execution of the duplication of the LZ-1 road, between Tahíche and Guatiza. Noda has indicated that in order to "minimize the environmental impact and the consumption of territory" "the parallel road" that already exists between both towns should be used.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has also requested "the immediate drafting of the duplication project between Yaiza and Playa Blanca, on the LZ-2 road”. Thus, he has proposed these works "before creating new bypasses in the surroundings of Arrecife and consuming more territory”.

In this sense, he has asked to focus attention on the growth of the vehicle fleet on the island of Lanzarote, “in 2023, the last year in which there is an updated figure, there were a total of 159 victims of traffic accidents in Lanzarote, with five of them dead". "That same year the island had an alarming vehicle fleet of 141,515 vehicles and, so far this year, 1,465 more have been registered. That means that for every 1,000 inhabitants in Lanzarote there are 889 vehicles, placing us above the average for the Canary Islands. These regrettable data”, continues Noda, “make us think about the excessive growth of vehicles in a fragile and sensitive territory, but it also makes us think that we cannot support the current conditions of our road network, whose last major work dates back to March 2015, with the famous Arrecife bypass that cost 35 million euros”.

Noda has considered that “the duplication of the LZ-2 and the LZ-1 represents an imminent need to guarantee greater safety, traffic flow, economic development and environmental sustainability in Lanzarote. This action is crucial to meet the current and future demands of the population and visitors to our island".

Likewise, he has indicated that the road network of Lanzarote is "fundamental" for the social and economic development of the island. In particular, the LZ-2 (Arrecife - Playa Blanca) and LZ-1 (Tahiche - Arrieta) roads are "essential arteries that connect different strategic points where a growing commercial, tourist and residential activity also takes place” and he has defended that “with the increasing increase in traffic, it is necessary to consider the duplication of these roads to improve the mobility and safety of users. The increase in the volume of vehicles on these roads has led to an increase in accidents, especially at two critical points, on the LZ-1 near the town of Mala, and on the LZ-2, near the Las Salinas del Janubio area”.

For all these reasons, Óscar Noda has considered that “a duplication will allow the creation of additional lanes, thus reducing the risk of collisions and providing greater safety for both drivers and pedestrians”.
