During the meeting, the housing situation in the Canary Islands was analyzed, and especially the reality of municipalities like Teguise, where access to housing has become one of the main concerns for many families.
Among the issues discussed, the possibility of establishing collaboration mechanisms between the Teguise City Council, the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and the Government of the Canary Islands to facilitate the availability of land for future residential projects stood out, allowing progress in the construction of public housing that contributes to meeting the existing demand.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, pointed out that “housing is one of the main concerns of our neighbors and, therefore, a priority for this government group. From the City Council, we are working to explore all possible avenues that allow generating new residential opportunities in the municipality and advancing, together with the rest of the administrations, in solutions that help expand the supply of public housing”.
For his part, the Minister of Housing of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration to face this challenge. “The housing situation requires the commitment and involvement of all administrations, and from the Cabildo, we will continue collaborating with the city councils and the Government of the Canary Islands to facilitate initiatives that allow the development of new residential projects and offer responses to an ever-increasing demand”.
The director of the Canary Islands Housing Institute (ICAVI), María del Pino de León, positively assessed the meeting and highlighted that collaboration between city councils, island councils, and the Government of the Canary Islands is fundamental to continue advancing in the promotion of public housing, especially in municipalities where demand is increasingly high. In this regard, she underscored the importance of working together to facilitate the availability of land that allows for the development of new residential projects and reaffirmed the commitment of the Government of the Canary Islands to continue promoting initiatives that contribute to expanding the housing supply and responding to the needs of citizens.
