Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) has issued a statement this Wednesday morning after the rupture of the Bloque Nacionalista Rural de Gáldar, headed by Teodoro Sosa, with the nationalists became known. The Canarista party has defended that this departure "culminates a rupture process initiated more than a year ago despite the dialogue efforts and the different proposals that we have raised to find points of agreement".
Thus, in the aforementioned document, the formation has assured that "we have not found any response from the other party, which even decided not to participate in meetings that were decisive for the National Directorate and the Political Council where these relevant issues were addressed." In addition, it has stated that "in the face of our enormous effort, the response has been the most absolute immobility."
The party has stated that "from respect for internal democracy, congressional decisions and the equal value of each of our members, we will continue working for the highest levels of unity among the groups and people of left-wing Canarianism, in favor of a Canary Islands with greater equity, with better public services, with fair and progressive taxation and with a sustainable economic model at the service of people's well-being." Thus, it has pointed out that these points “deeply” separate the formation from the parties that support the current Government of the Canary Islands.
“We reaffirm the need to protect the principles that sustain left-wing Canarianism as a guide for the transformation of the present and the future of the Canary Islands. We do so at a time of profound right-wing drift worldwide, to which the Canary Islands is no stranger,” he continued.
Nueva Canarias has defended that it has made an "enormous effort of dialogue and decision-making, such as the advancement of the VI National Congress, the proposal of a notable increase in the percentage of presence of independent parties in it, as well as their participation, for the first time, in the organizing committee and in the conclave." Meanwhile, it has assured that this line of work will be transferred to the next electoral calls through a profound renovation of the candidacies, characterized by "the greater presence of young people and women. What we are not going to change is our condition as a clearly progressive Canarian obedience organization,” he added.
Insurmountable differences
Regarding possible confluences with insular and conservative parties, Nueva Canarias has recalled that it maintains "substantial differences" in different proposals such as "taxation, the financing of public services, sustainability, renewable energies and frontal opposition to the implementation of gas." To which is added its way of understanding the tourism model, supporting an insularized moratorium and an eco-tax. In addition, the favorable vote of these insular and conservative formations to a state government of the PP together with Vox and the Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN).
In short, they are "insurmountable differences between a left-wing Canarian formation and another conservative regionalist one, a false nationalism that neither improves the living conditions of the Canarians nor protects the territory and the environment nor builds a country."
“Of course we respect” the announced decision of the BNR and other independent municipal groups that opt for the same path. “From the certainty that, if they continue to be part of the Canarian space of progress, we will coincide on numerous occasions” inside and outside the institutions.
“What will not happen, obviously, if their steps are directed towards the space of conservative Canarianism with which we maintain enormous differences”, as happens in other nationalities between left-wing and right-wing nationalist organizations.
The departure of the BNR, like the one planned by other independent groups, “prompts us to renew our commitment” to a Canarianism that bets on the modernization of the Canary Islands, on solidarity between its territories and on the fight against inequalities. Nueva Canarias “will continue to be an open space for those who share our vision of a strong, fair and cohesive Canary Islands, and we will continue working tirelessly to guarantee that political decisions are at the service” of citizens and future generations.
