The local assembly of Nueva Canarias Teguise unanimously proclaimed Dr. Fernando Jiménez as the official candidate for the next local elections in May 2023. This was ratified on Saturday afternoon at the Ubigue de Nazaret sociocultural center, where NC members and supporters met, as well as residents of Teguise.

The event was attended by the national president of the Canarian formation and vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Román Rodríguez, who wanted to say a few words to his colleagues on the Local Committee.

“The NC candidacy in Teguise has what a local candidacy should have, closeness and love for caring for its people,” said Rodríguez, who also addressed the proclaimed candidate as an “honest, simple, good and responsible person. Teguise will be in good hands with Fernando Jiménez as mayor.”

For his part, the spokesperson for the Canaristas in Teguise, Yoné Caraballo, highlighted the work they have done in these years in the municipality, "listening to the citizens and betting on socio-health issues that are very neglected by the current political class."

In addition, he highlighted the incorporation of "young people, committed to their land and eager to improve the well-being of Teguise and La Graciosa."

The candidate Fernando Jiménez began his speech by reviewing his professional career of more than 30 years as a Primary Care physician in the municipality of Teguise, in what he described as "half a lifetime worried and occupied with the well-being of my patients."

Jiménez outlined the strategic lines of the Canarian project for the municipality, which revolve around the promotion of Canarian culture, identity and heritage; traditions and the primary sector as a pole of economic attraction; the beautification of the towns and the Villa de Teguise; the improvement of public services such as dependency, care and active aging; and/or the organization of the territory and the island of La Graciosa, among many others.

In addition, he stressed "the importance of establishing a model of close politics, which does not confront, but does propose solutions, and where consensus prevails over tension."

“As a candidate for Mayor of Teguise, I propose to govern, neither more nor less, in the way that I have been practicing my profession. With deep respect for my neighbors and with a clear commitment to well-being and social justice,” said Jiménez.
