Nueva Canarias has managed to have the General State Budgets of 2022 incorporate a sum of one and a half million euros for the future Zonzamas Park in Arrecife, according to the party, which will support these accounts.
From the political formation they detail that the park would be located on the current Juan Negrín street, an area classified by NC as "strategic for the city". In its surroundings are the CIFP Zonzamas, IES César Manrique, CEIP Capellanía de Yágabo, Titerroy Health Center, Day Center for the Elderly and the military barracks.
According to Nueva Canarias, the projection of the Zonzamas Park is based on two main objectives: "road correction and the creation of a multifunctional green space". Of the 3,200 square meters that the park would occupy, currently "50 percent is asphalt".
In this way, NC intends to "correct the roads", transforming them "into a large free space for pedestrians". The other remaining 50 percent would be, according to the party, "a Canary garden, with endemic plants and trees, which would maintain a function of permeabilizing rainwater", a method classified as "sponge". In turn, they add that the water "would be stored in tanks for irrigation use."

The spokesperson for the Local Committee of Arrecife and member of the government group in the capital, Armando Santana, states that the Zonzamas Park "would represent the beginning of a new cycle for Arrecife, more sustainable, citizen-friendly and green". In addition, he points out that "it is not only a park that both residents and visitors could enjoy, but it is designed so that the students and teachers of CIFP Zonzamas can use it in the mornings as an outdoor classroom."
NC believes that Arrecife needs "safe spaces, with a gender perspective and that create community".
Park design
Nueva Canaria states that the park consists of "three axes." In a first axis there would be the Central Zones or "Gardened Craters" that have "with slits that produce small squares with steps, a shaded area and trees".
The second axis, according to NC, would be "in the dividing wall with the CIFP Zonzamas, which would include storage rooms with access both from inside the center and from the outside." These rooms, in addition, may be used "by the professional training cycles that want to carry out outdoor activities."
Finally, Nueva Canarias adds that the third axis has to do with the boundary to Calle Juan Negrín, "where a small landscaped slope would be located that protects from the trade winds and noise". In addition, the formation maintains that "the bus stop would be located, designed as a hub for transport and sustainable mobility from the entrance to the capital."
With this proposal, Nueva Canarias intends to "start the transformation that Arrecife deserves with a kinder look at our environment", and ensuring that the existing deficiencies "are resolved under the logic of the sustainable development strategy."
"Patches are no longer valid. We need strategic public works that shape the Arrecife of the future," says Armando Santana.
