The current senator for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, Manuel Fajardo Palarea, has addressed the problems of the primary sector with the governing boards of the Agrarian Transformation Society (SAT) El Jable, the Agricultural Cooperative Society of Guatiza-Mala and with the board of directors of the Irrigation Community Isla de Lanzarote.
He assured that "the PSOE has a commitment to the rural environment and we understand it today, more than ever, as a vital space for the sustainable development of our economy and our society," Manuel Fajardo Palarea told them.
On the occasion of the round of contacts he is maintaining with the productive and social fabric in view of the general elections on July 23, Fajardo has addressed with his interlocutors the problems affecting the island's agricultural sector.
Among the topics discussed is agricultural irrigation water, for which the senator acknowledges that "I am aware that the agri-food sector is a central element in the creation of wealth and employment in rural areas, and that largely involves efficiency in the use of water to improve the sustainability and competitiveness of farms."
Another issue analyzed has been the "establishment of a line of inter-administrative cooperation" that optimizes resources and produces synergies to favor generational change in the field, since, "young people are the bet for a sector with a future", said Fajardo Palarea.
Great Market of Supplies in Arrecife
Likewise, surveillance has been discussed to ensure compliance with the food chain law and not allow sales at a loss, to solve once and for all the problem facing cochineal in Lanzarote and support the role of women as the engine of development in rural areas.
Likewise, there has been agreement in betting on the installation in Arrecife of a large Market of Supplies, where farmers can sell their products to consumers without intermediaries, with the consequent improvement of income for producers and the reduction of purchase prices for citizens.
Finally, Manuel Fajardo Palarea has expressed his conviction that the future of the agri-food sector "involves continuing to improve its competitiveness and sustainability, in its triple aspect: environmental, economic and social."
