The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, has stated that he appreciates "the support of the president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, and the president of the Island Council of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, to change the brine discharge through the emissary to a filtration well."

Both presidents have agreed to endorse the position of the mayor of Tinajo and have committed to modify the project of the future plant that will serve to irrigate the fields of Tinajo “to avoid affecting the marine environment”, thus sharing the concern of Jesús Machín, the surfers and the fishermen of La Santa “for the effects that the discharges could cause” in the area. They have confirmed that "the project is already drafted and will be executed once the Island Council of Lanzarote (directly or through the Island Water Council) signs the mandatory Agreement with the State Mercantile Society of Agricultural Infrastructures (SEIASA), dependent on said Ministry." The regional president and the island president plan to address the Government of Spain "to modify the project" and have assured that "the alternative that arrives will always be agreed upon with the City Council of Tinajo, the surfers, fishermen and other affected sectors.”

Jesús Machín appreciates the support of Torres and Corujo, which has come after several conversations between the mayor of Tinajo and the president of the Canary Islands and which comes from afar, “the first of them took place in the month of September, during the Los Dolores festival. I know both of them well and I know their sensitivity to the environment, I have never doubted that Tinajo would receive their support in this cause, more than justified.” Machín ratifies his “unwavering refusal to that brine discharge through the emissary in the area where it is projected” and trusts that, with the support of the Government of the Canary Islands and the Island Council of Lanzarote, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will be receptive and modify the project in relation to the discharge of water through an underwater emissary.” Machín hopes that this section will not cause “delays in the execution of the project, so needed and demanded by the people of Tinajo for decades.”
