The councilor of the City Council of San Bartolomé, Javier Betancort, has just dealt a severe blow to his party by presenting his resignation as councilor and resigning from the act of the Corporation. Betancort has explained that it has been "a very hard and very difficult decision", although he had to make it due "to the discrepancies that I have maintained with my party". These discrepancies have to do with the establishment of the Management Committee, due to a change of guidelines in the Popular Party, which he assures that at the national level they continue to exist "but not here, in Lanzarote".
Javier Betancort also explains that the inactivity of his formation in the face of the withdrawal of his powers as councilor of Economy and Finance "has been the straw that breaks the camel's back", since, as he comments, he asked the Popular Party to restore those powers to him or to withdraw them from other colleagues in the formation.
Despite these discrepancies, Betancort assures that he will continue to be part of the PP "because I have the same values as the Popular Party" and because he explains that he is not against the formation but "against some guidelines established by the people who are part of the PP in Lanzarote". In this way, he comments that he is in favor of pacts, but not "of blank checks", something that has occurred, in his opinion, in the City Council of San Bartolomé, since "the General Plan was the responsibility of the Popular Party since we have the area of Urbanism, but it was only approved when the mayor wanted to approve it".
Although he has resigned from his position within the Consistory, Javier Betancort has assured that he will continue to be part of the PP, "although I do not want to participate with the people of the Popular Party in Lanzarote in the next elections". In any case, Betancort has defined himself as a person "with political concerns" and, therefore, the door has been left open to a possible adhesion within the ranks of the CCN because "if a party were to arrive and guarantee me that I am going to work on the values in which I believe, which coincide with those of the Popular Party at the national level, I would study it, although right now there is absolutely nothing".
