The Flora Acoge Canary Foundation, which last May suspended the pharmacy and transport aid it offered due to the "delay in payment" of subsidies from the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Government of the Canary Islands and the municipalities of the island, has now announced the closure of its shelter "during the day."

"Without pharmacy aid, transportation, delay in the payment of payroll, and now the closure of the shelter during the day is added," Flora Acoge communicated, explaining that "without economic means that favor the continuity of services, the entity is forced to temporarily paralyze them, affecting this situation the 91 people who currently receive help and/or support from the foundation."

Faced with this, Flora Acoge also announces that the volunteers, the beneficiaries of the services and the workers will concentrate next Friday, June 29, starting at 9 a.m., at the entrance of the Cabildo "as a sign of protest against the functioning of public administrations, which to this day have not favored that the economic resources are in a timely manner to execute and give continuity to the projects and services."

"The subsidies that we are pending to receive are to be executed in the 2018 financial year; the fact that they have not been entered to this day has meant that from January to May of this year, the entity has been forced to carry out the services exhausting the resources it had and currently seeing itself in this situation," explains Flora Acoge, which invites "to participate in the concentration and demand from the institutions a real, effective and consistent commitment with the needs of people in situations of social exclusion and the population in general."
