New Canaries councilor and doctor in Lanzarote, Fernando Jiménez, has been "extremely outraged" on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero because the Teguise Health Center has been without water for a day and a half. The company in charge of water management in Lanzarote, Canal Gestión, reported two days ago the suspension of the water supply in La Villa and other parts of the island due to the shutdown suffered by the Lanzarote IV desalination plant.

The lack of water in the center has forced the closure of public bathrooms and interferes with the daily lives of healthcare workers. "We have not been able to get to the heart of the situation. Really, the Cabildo and the Insular Water Consortium, after ten years of handing over public water to a management company, which only came to save a debt of certain political parties that everyone knows, have not been able to do a real audit of the situation," he said during his speech.

"The pipes that are being changed now, the 38 streets with the most breakdowns, are a patch," he referred to the Cabildo's Insular Plan to repair these thirty streets that have more problems. "It will be to solve the most damaged arteries or veins, after more than 30 years, but it does not solve the fact that the heart of the machinery is as it is," Jiménez alluded to the situation of the island's desalination plants.

"We are going to repair some arteries and veins, but we have not repaired some fundamental bases that were the membranes, the machinery that is obsolete. It was for 100,000 or 120,000 people and we are already almost at 160,000 inhabitants," he added in the morning show Buenos días, Lanzarote.

Fernando Jiménez has pointed out the lack of oversight by the island governments of the work of Canal Gestión at the head of water management in Lanzarote. "These parties in these twelve years have not done a persistent follow-up. Lots of photos, lots of parties, but this has to be fixed. The machinery has to be fixed, the water tanks have to be fixed and the water culture of the cisterns has to be resumed, everyone has to lend a hand," he advised during his radio intervention.

At the same time, he asked that "they do not come now as saviors." "I invite them to present an audit, to present the heart of the company, the heart of the Consortium, that they do not pull our leg, that we have no hair left. When Maneje broke, it was already said that that tank was three decades old. Who was governing in 2016?", questioned the Canarian.

Regarding the problems in the island's pipes, he criticized that "for wanting to save four pennies ten, fifteen years ago, now we have this inheritance."
