The New Canaries candidate for Mayor of Teguise, Dr. Fernando Jiménez, together with members of the Local Committee of the Canaristas in Teguise, including candidate Yoné Caraballo, visited the Eighth Island last Monday, May 1, coinciding with Labor Day.

During the tour, they collected different demands, concerns and needs of the people of La Graciosa in their daily lives, including the constant complaints about the continuous interruptions in the supply of drinking water, the party reports.

A problem in which the Canaristas have already proposed a battery of measures, including "the implementation of a permanent desalination plant on the Island, the creation of a commonwealth of the
north between the municipalities of Teguise and Haría and the return of the management of the integral water cycle to the local administrations," they emphasize.

The route through the Eighth Island, which this year has for the first time in its history its own budget of 3.1 million euros through the General Budgets of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, at the request of the Vice President and Minister of Finance of the Government, Román Rodríguez, began in Caleta de Sebo, where they toured social points such as the Sociocultural Center to the El Salao area.

"We wanted to make ourselves known among the population of La Graciosa, have direct contact with the citizens, present our project for the municipality and the Island and collect complaints and claims from the residents," explains Jiménez.

At this point, the representation was joined by: Yoné Caraballo, Daisy Villalba, Óscar Noda, for the management of the Social Welfare Area of the First Corporation of Lanzarote.

After a stop at the "El Veril Restaurant", Caraballo conveyed to the attendees the need to "express with courage in the Parliament of the Canary Islands what the Eighth Island really needs to care for it, order it and regulate it, with containment policies so that it continues to be the exclusive destination that it has been until now".

Immediately afterwards, Jiménez, visited Margarita Páez, 'Margarona', who, in the words of the candidate for Mayor of Teguise, "we consider the alma mater of La Graciosa and our main social agent to advise us on what the island has been, what it is and what we would like it to be in our Island Home project".

"La Graciosa has been the cradle of brave and fighting women. An example of a well-understood matriarchy, where women take center stage in island life," he said. In this sense, he conveyed to the historical leader the "main lines" of the transforming municipalism that the Canaristas have been developing in a good part of the Canary Islands.

"With us, the people of La Graciosa will never be alone because caring is our purpose and our mission in life"

"With us, the people of La Graciosa will never be alone because caring is our purpose and our mission in life", Jiménez said. Already on the boat back to Lanzarote, according to the Teguise candidate, "we left with the sense and awareness of having enjoyed a great Labor Day, a day for workers, our reason for being".
