The Coalición Canaria councilors in the Yaiza City Council regret that of "the twenty modalities that applied for aid" to the municipal sports schools at the beginning of the 2022/2023 school year, only "nine were able to complete the three periods of the school year."

To this must be added, as pointed out by the spokesperson for the nationalists, Emilio Machín, that “of those who requested aid in the third quarter, eight were left out and the rest, having already started a new course, have not yet received all of the previous one.” For the mayor, “it is clear that this can only be the result of an absolute lack of interest on the part of the City Council towards grassroots sport.”

Machín criticizes the consequences of a management that he describes as "disastrous" and affirms that, on the part of the City Council in general and the Department of Sports in particular, “the continuity of some sports schools is being put at risk that, by not being able to access the municipal subsidy, they will not be able to face the expenses involved in the acquisition of material or the transfer of athletes when it is time to compete abroad.”

“The continuity of some sports schools is being put at risk, which will not be able to meet the expenses"

On the other hand, he adds that "many clubs do not know if they will be able to restart" the activities “because the City Council lacks the necessary personnel to open, for example, the facilities of the CEO of Playa Blanca”. The nationalist spokesperson urges the southern Consistory to take care of the base of each sports modality, “since it is precisely there where many of our young people learn values such as respect, teamwork, equality, equity, discipline, inclusion or perseverance”.

For this reason, Machín considers that the support for the municipality's sports schools by the institution "is vital", and urges the mayor to form "a participatory table" in which the "government group, the opposition, the technicians and the sports clubs sit down to dialogue2 and from which "real and effective" proposals emerge.
