The Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, holds a telematic meeting with trade union organizations

The Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuela Armas, said this Wednesday that the course will begin on the scheduled dates, but insisted that it is "likely" that it will not be done in person in Gran Canaria, Lanzarote or El Hierro.

However, it will be the Council of the Government of the Canary Islands that decides at its meeting this Thursday whether the non-university school year begins in person on all the islands, as Armas recalled in a parliamentary committee.

In response to the deputy of the Mixed group Vidina Espina, of Ciudadanos, the counselor indicated that the Council of the Government of the Canary Islands will also decide in that meeting if PCRs will be done to teachers and students or what type of screening will be carried out.

Deputy Vidina Espino highlighted the importance of lowering the ratios of students, which in the Canary Islands has been established at 25 students per teacher, and for this, she stressed, it is necessary to hire more teachers.

Vidina Espino indicated that 3,200 more teachers are needed, while the Government of the Canary Islands speaks of hiring 2,500, so she asked Manuela Armas to "fight" for the 700 that are different.

In addition, she recalled that it is not the same to keep the safety distance in barracks of 40 square meters, which also have ventilation problems, than to do it in classrooms of 70 square meters.
