The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, led by Poli Suárez, allocates 90,000 euros to the subsidy of five federations of associations of mothers and fathers of students (AMPA) from centers supported with public funds in the Canary Islands, as well as their confederation. This figure represents a significant increase compared to the 40,000 previously allocated, as part of the "commitment acquired by the counselor."
Managed through the General Directorate of Center Administration, School Enrollment and Complementary Services, coordinated by David Crego, the granting of these direct subsidies - whose amount has increased by 225% - is included in Order 511/2025 of April 1, which also establishes that they are intended to finance the operating expenses of the AMPA federations, as well as their confederation "in support of advising, promoting participation and training of their federated associations."
In the words of David Crego, these aids aim to continue supporting the federations and families in the planning and program of their activities throughout the archipelago, since "they are an important part in the development of the educational community."
Among the expenses contemplated are those derived from contracted personnel; extracurricular activities or presentations; travel, meals and accommodation of its members in the course of carrying out conferences or activities in representation of the federation, also applicable to the intervention of speakers; maintenance and conservation of facilities and headquarters, and management and administration, as in the case of consumable material expenses.
The six federations benefiting from these aids are the Tenerife Island Federation of Associations of Parents and Mothers of Students (FITAPA) and the Galdós AMPAS Federation, of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; with a direct subsidy of 21,600 euros for each one; the Federation of Associations of Parents and Mothers of Students of Lanzarote (FAPA Lanzarote) and the Federation of AMPAS of the Canary Islands (CONFAPA Canarias), with 12,600 euros each, and the Federation of Associations of Mothers and Fathers of La Palma (FAPA La Palma) and the Majorera Island Federation of Mothers, Fathers and Students (FIMAPA), with an aid for each one of 10,800 euros.
The granting of this subsidy by the Ministry of Education is based on the role of the family in the educational process of their sons and daughters, "which requires providing mothers and fathers with updated strategies, skills and knowledge," so that they can respond to new educational needs. These associations also provide families and students with the "ideal framework to contribute to the improvement of the educational system, facilitating participation in the life of the educational center and the training of its associates."
