The new hemodynamics and radiotherapy oncology units that the Doctor Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote will have will be operational in the second half of 2023 and will prevent patients who need these treatments from traveling to Gran Canaria, said this Saturday the Minister of Health, Carolina Darias.

On the occasion of the visit she made to the hospital this Saturday, the minister recalled that these units have been possible thanks to the Investment Plan in High Technology (INVEAT) of the National Health System, endowed with 792 million euros for the renovation of 800 high-tech health equipment throughout the country, an "unprecedented reform" in the health field, she stressed.

In the statements she made to journalists and that have been provided to Efe, Darias stressed that one of the health centers that has benefited from the investments of this plan has been the Doctor Molina Orosa Hospital.

Of the 38.5 million euros destined for the Canary Islands so that "all" its hospitals can expand or renew 40 high-tech equipment, 3.5 million have corresponded to Doctor Molina Orosa, which will allow marking a "before and after" in the health care of the people of Lanzarote, as it will improve people's lives and avoid the need to travel to Gran Canaria, she said.

The minister also referred to the ten proton therapy equipment that have been donated by the businessman Amancio Ortega to the National Health System and that will be distributed throughout the Spanish geography, and that one of them will be installed in the Canary Islands.

Darias was accompanied by the Island Director of the General State Administration in Lanzarote, Juan Ramón Pérez; José Luis Aparicio and Noelia Umpiérrez, manager and director of the Lanzarote Health Area; and Natalia Monzón and María Montilla, directors of Nursing of Molina Orosa and the Insular Hospital.

The minister will participate this Saturday afternoon in an event organized by the Cabildo de Lanzarote to pay tribute to the entities and organizations that "have given their best during the pandemic", which is why she has traveled to the island.
