The Ciudadanos (Cs) deputy for the province of Las Palmas, Saúl Ramírez, has registered a question in the Lower House, for which he has requested a written answer, in which he has requested information from the Government of Spain on the current situation and operation of the Integrated External Surveillance System (SIVE) in Lanzarote.

In this regard, Ramírez recalled that "the Civil Guard's SIVE devices did not detect the arrival of a boat with 27 people on board to the coast of Costa Teguise last January 15", and, as a result, "a tragedy occurred with several fatalities."

Therefore, the Cs deputy for the province of Las Palmas has demanded that the central Executive "explain what are the reasons why boats approaching the coast of the island are not detected", in this case a pneumatic boat of about six meters in length, since "the SIVE has not fulfilled its main purpose."

Likewise, he has asked about the amount of public funds allocated to the maintenance and repair in 2017 of the different SIVE devices in Lanzarote, "which has several radars and sensors distributed by Costa Teguise, Puerto del Carmen, Montaña Mina (San Bartolomé) and Montaña del Bardo (between Arrieta and Haría)". "This tool is very important to guarantee security on the coasts, so it is essential that the Government of Spain guarantee the necessary means for these devices to adequately fulfill their functions," Ramírez concluded.
