Although it has remained as the fourth force, AC-25M has not reached 800 votes, compared to the 5,360 it obtained in 2004. And Pedro Hernández has fared even worse with his new "Isla Alternativa" and the alliance of Nueva Canarias with the PNL

Rout of Citizen Alternative and failure of the NC-PNL coalition in Lanzarote

Beyond the victory of the socialist Marcos Hernández in the Senate, the truth is that the CC candidate, Jesús Machín, and the Popular Party candidate, Astrid Pérez, have also improved the results registered by their respective parties in 2004, all of them being above the 10,000 vote barrier. A very different panorama from that experienced by the other 19 candidates who aspired to occupy the seat corresponding to Lanzarote in the Upper House.

Although the fourth place has once again gone to Alternativa Ciudadana, the truth is that on this occasion it has not even reached 800 votes (1.7 percent of the total), compared to the 5,360 it received in 2004 with the candidacy of Emilia Morales. An important setback that confirms the decline they already suffered in the last local and regional elections, where the crisis within the formation began to take its toll, and which ended with the departure of Pedro Hernández.

However, the one who was one of the founders of AC-25M, who was now trying as a candidate for the Senate with his new party, Isla Alternativa, has fared even worse. Not even one percent of the votes has been achieved by Pedro Hernández, who was in seventh place, even below forces such as Izquierda Unida, which are practically testimonial in Lanzarote, and also the candidate of Nueva Canarias-PNL, Isabel Martinón, who was in fifth place with less than 700 votes.

Alliance that did not materialize

Despite the good results obtained by Román Rodríguez's Nueva Canarias in Gran Canaria, which although it has not managed to achieve representation in Congress has remained as the third political force above CC, the truth is that in Lanzarote it has not received support, despite the fact that it tried to join forces with the PNL. And if in the Senate it remained as the fifth force with only 1.5 percent of the votes, in the Lower House it did not obtain better results. The list in which the former mayor of Yaiza, José Francisco Reyes, appeared as number 2, did not reach 900 votes in the entire island (with 1.92 percent) and did not even stand out in the southern municipality, where with 224 votes, it remained as the fourth force behind the PP, the PSOE and the CC-PNC-PIL coalition.
