The Ministry of Education of the Canary Islands Government has decided that face-to-face teaching activity will resume as normal this Friday in the educational centers of the islands, following the indications of the Directorate General of Emergencies regarding the evolution of storm Claudia.
The passage of the storm through the Canary Islands, accompanied by strong winds and heavy rains, forced the suspension of classes in the islands of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Wednesday afternoon, a measure that was extended to the entire community this Thursday.
Education made that decision to avoid travel and prevent incidents in the face of the meteorological events predicted in an alert situation for strong and persistent rain and winds.
This Thursday, classes were only taught remotely, and in those courses where it was not possible to switch to non-face-to-face modality, teaching activity was suspended.
However, the servers that support the platforms used by the Ministry of Education to offer remote classes to students registered incidents and occasional outages due to "saturation of simultaneous access," as confirmed to EFE by the department headed by Poli Suárez.
The Ministry has specified that the incidents "have been resolved" and that the servers did not register total outages, so access throughout the morning has worked.
The incidents have affected platforms such as EVAGD, used by primary and secondary school students, and Campus, for vocational training students.
Because of these events, the Canary Islands PSOE has reproached the Canary Islands Government for its "inoperability and lack of efficiency" in the face of "an inadmissible failure" which, in their opinion, constitutes "a worrying sign of institutional disorganization, especially in a context where the administration insisted that classes would be maintained remotely to avoid the complete suspension of activity."
The socialists have demanded that the Canary Islands Government clarify "immediately" what happened and state what measures it intends to adopt to prevent this type of collapse from happening again in the future.
