CC will expel councilors Ángel Domínguez and Fátima Viñoly after their decision to stay in the Yaiza government

"They are not comfortable situations, I would have loved for things to be different, but each one decides where they want to be, and they obviously don't want to be here," says the party's secretary, Migdalia Machín.

The secretary of the Canarian Coalition, Migdalia Machín, has explained that the party has initiated "an internal expulsion procedure" following the announcement by CC councilors Ángel Domínguez and Fátima Viñoly to remain in the government group of the Yaiza City Council, disobeying the party's order to abandon it after breaking the pact.

"They have two options, either submit their resignation or we expel them. They are not comfortable situations, I would have loved for things to be different, but each one decides where they want to be, and they obviously don't want to be here," Machín stated in an interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

The secretary of CC maintains that Domínguez and Viñoly's decision is "beyond her comprehension." "When you present yourself in a group, you may agree with some decisions or not. It's not a personal matter, it's a party matter. But well, after the decision we made to break the Yaiza pact, they have decided to stay in. And each one chooses their path," Machín explains.

For his part, the general secretary of CC, Fernando Clavijo, maintains that "a series of behaviors and positions of the mayor" that they did not share from CC, led them to abandon the government group. "Because in the Canarian Coalition we have principles and values, and indeed I believe that Migdalia Machín made the decision correctly," he points out.

"From there, they are within their legitimate right to prioritize staying to maintain a salary, but it is certainly not the position of the Canarian Coalition, nor are we satisfied with how the municipality of Yaiza is functioning. A party decision was made, and they have made a personal decision. It is respectable, but we do not share it from the Canarian Coalition," Clavijo points out.

"Honestly, it is a decision that was particularly difficult for us to make"

Ángel Domínguez defends that he and Viñoly announced the decision to remain in the party this Thursday because they "had to do it now," but adds that they could "have chosen any other" and that "it has nothing to do with the presentation of the Canarian Coalition's candidacy."

"Honestly, it is a decision that was particularly difficult for us to make. I have been a candidate in 2015 and 2019, and we have complied with the party's guidelines, but it is true that for some time now, since the idea of making a motion of censure began to be conceived, I have been gradually observing how they were hindering my work," explains the CC councilor.

"There are those who believe that I should leave the minutes of the government group of the City Council. I understand that nothing will solve it. I do not rule out that before the end of the legislature I will end up handing over the minutes because it is clear that one has to organize their life in the future, and in the coming weeks we will see what we do. But as of today, we are going to continue working," Domínguez concludes.

Finally, regarding his political future, Domínguez points out that as of today his idea is to finish the legislature, go home, and go vote on May 28. "One always has that itch to continue in politics, but with this situation I have particularly ended up a bit discouraged and I am not planning to go on any electoral list. But I do not rule out anything, you can never say I will not drink this water," concludes the CC councilor.
