The Canary Coalition in the City Council of San Bartolomé regrets that the Council “continues to close doors to the creation of employment in the municipality” with actions such as “the cancellation of the Wedding Fair 'Yes, I do, Lanzarote'”.
The political formation points out that the fair was held “uninterruptedly” until 2019, also recalling that “the first edition was promoted in 2016 by CC, with David Rocío and Isabel Sosa at the head of the Commerce and Tourism councils”.
The last edition, due to the pandemic, could not be held. However, according to the spokesperson for the Canary Coalition, David Rocío, “now there is no excuse”, and he questions that this decision “is another blow to employment, businesses and tourist activity in the municipality”.
“We worked very hard to get San Bartolomé recognized as a wedding destination, to create places in the municipality where this type of celebration can be held and that this would generate employment and we even got the involvement of the Cabildo”, adds the spokesman.
David Rocío assures that the government group “has settled down” and that “it is not doing anything to encourage activity, seriously harming employment”. “Don't they understand the existing demand and the jobs, so necessary at this time, that this generates?”, asks the mayor.
According to the spokesperson for the Canary Coalition, “when the business sector needs the most support, when the municipality needs the most jobs, the City Council decides not to resume one of the activities that has generated the most economic movement in recent years”
The nationalists regret that the government of San Bartolomé “finds it so difficult to resume all kinds of activity in the municipality and continues to completely paralyze the economic recovery”.
“Sport returned, although not in its entirety, after we slammed the table to open part of the facilities. However, there are activities such as zumba that are still waiting and spaces for celebrations, such as the picnic area and the annex to the Casa Mayor Guerra, continue to be closed, even rejecting the CC motion for its immediate opening”, the spokesperson stresses.
However, the nationalists believe that "not all is lost” and point out that, precisely due to the late restart of many activities after the pandemic, “the calendar of some of them has had to be extended”. The Canary Coalition affirms that the wedding season “will be extended until the end of the year”, so the formation proposes “to work so that the aforementioned fair is held in the first quarter of 2022”. In the same way, the CC councilors offer “to cooperate with the participating companies, so that the fair is not lost, we continue to be an attraction for the opening of businesses and spaces in the sector, and therefore, employment continues to be generated".
