The Nationalist Group in the Cabildo will take to the next plenary session a motion that, if approved, they say will "guarantee the development of a monthly minimum of cultural activities for the children's public of Lanzarote and La Graciosa".

“To achieve this goal, we propose that at least 5% of the total activities that are programmed monthly from the Culture Department of the Cabildo, without counting those agreed with schools, be destined for an audience under 15 years of age”, explains councilor Óscar Pérez.

“We are talking about 14.4% of the population, more than the sum of all those over 65 years of age on our two islands. A population segment for which specific cultural projects were developed in the past that have been disappearing until becoming merely testimonial”, he questions.

If the initiative goes ahead, the party maintains that it will mean "the application of a pioneering measure in the archipelago, which although necessary in all respects, had not been raised by any political force until now". “The minors of our two islands are underrepresented in the cultural programming of the Cabildo. By putting this progressive measure into practice, Lanzarote and La Graciosa will be the first islands in the Canary Islands to have a pro-childhood cultural regulation”, highlights the councilor.

"We hope to have the support of the government group of the Cabildo formed by the PSOE, Podemos and the defector councilor Juan Manuel Sosa, as well as that of the Popular Party, currently in the opposition", they point out from CC.

“I am hopeful that our proposal will go ahead. It is an easily applicable measure, without any additional cost, and that will provide month after month cultural activities for the little ones with the same guarantees of criteria and artistic validity that are applied to the rest of the events programmed by the technical team of the Culture Department of the Cabildo”, Óscar Pérez has pointed out.
