With the arrival of summer, festivals proliferate everywhere, with August becoming the main month with festivals in many towns, including Arrecife.
The residents of the town of Nazaret are also immersed in celebrating the festivities in honor of their patron saint, Our Lady of Nazaret, with an extensive and varied festive program organized by the board of the Ubigue Socio-Cultural Center, with the collaboration of the Teguise City Council.
The festivities began with the reading of the proclamation, presented by the president María Pino Pérez, who was in charge of welcoming the municipal authorities, heralds and the general public present in the assembly hall of the Ubigue Socio-Cultural Center. This year the proclamation was given by four residents representing the elders of the town.
Ana Nereida González, a resident of Nazaret and councilor of the Senior Citizens Area in the Teguise City Council, was in charge of interviewing each of the heralds who were relating their experiences of what the town of Nazaret was like in their childhood and youth without luxuries or comforts, although none of that prevented them from being happy. Today they share their experiences without any complex, pointing out that the festivals of those years have nothing to do with the current ones.
The population of Nazaret is currently larger, made up of residents from other towns and when the holidays arrive we come together to share moments like these. The audience enjoyed an endearing proclamation, listening carefully to each of the four heralds. At the end of the interventions, Olivia Duque, mayoress of the Teguise City Council, gave them a gift for their collaboration.
The program of events, which will end on August 15, has many activities for children, young people and adults. Highlights include, among others, the Romería Offering on Saturday the 9th from 6:30 p.m. and on Friday the 15th the festivity of Our Lady of Nazaret with the Diana Floreada with chocolate and churros, ending at 12:00 noon with the Solemn Eucharist and procession.
