The island secretary of the Canarian Coalition in Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, has supported the initiative of deputy Cristina Valido on the progress for the legislative modification that protects the rights of the people of La Graciosa.

In accordance with the Regulations of the Congress of Deputies, the nationalist deputy has submitted a question to the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, requesting a written response.

The important issue raised refers to a historical demand, since in 2014 the Canarian Parliament, unanimously, urged the Government of Spain to carry out the modification of Law 27/2013 of December 27. This modification aims to incorporate the Island of La Graciosa as a minor local entity with legal personality.

Although the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands already recognized this right in 2018, the necessary legislative modification has not yet materialized.

Migdalia Machín highlights the importance of this modification to guarantee the rights of the people of La Graciosa. Given this situation, the question addressed to the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory seeks to obtain clarity on whether the Ministry plans to advance in the aforementioned legislative modification.

The Canarian Coalition in Lanzarote supports Cristina Valido's initiative and highlights its commitment to defending the interests of La Graciosa. “We are going to continue working to ensure that the demands of the citizens are met and that progress is made in achieving their rights recognized in the Statute of Autonomy”, said Migdalia Machín.
