The Lanzarote parliamentarians of the Canarian Nationalist Group, David Toledo, Oswaldo Betancort and Cristina Calero, presented this Monday at the headquarters of Coalición Canaria in Arrecife the draft Law of General Budgets of the Autonomous Community for 2025.
Accompanied by the general secretary of CC Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, and the secretary of Organization, Echedey Eugenio, among other organic and public positions, they highlighted "the commitment to the integral development of both islands".
The president of the Canarian Nationalist Group, David Toledo, stressed that these budgets reflect "the central axis of the Coalición Canaria project, which is to "attend to the needs of the people and take care of the basic pillars of the welfare state such as health, social services, education and housing".
For his part, Oswaldo Betancort highlighted the two "significant increases experienced by the budget items in the last two years" and thanked in this regard the Government "presided over by Fernando Clavijo and his entire team for understanding the historical debt that others have left with Lanzarote and La Graciosa".
Similarly, Cristina Calero stressed that "for the first time a budget item will be considered for schooling from 0 to 3 years old with four million euros, which will be an important support for Lanzarote and Graciosa families" and also thanked "the management carried out by Migdalia Machín as Minister of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture to include an item of 500,000 euros for the future island auditorium".
The island with the highest increase
With an allocation of 131,457,370 euros, Lanzarote "is positioned as the island with the highest increase in investment in 2025, 13% more than the previous year, consolidating itself as the third island with the largest budget".
This progress represents a significant improvement compared to previous budgets: in 2024, Lanzarote and La Graciosa had 105,371,201 euros, while in 2023, the last year of the Pacto de las Flores led by the PSOE, the allocation was 42,849,775 euros
This increase underscores the effort to "respond to island demands and prioritize the fundamental pillars of social welfare: health, social welfare, education and housing. In this sense, Lanzarote will continue to be the island with the highest investment in housing, going from 14 million the previous year to 18 million euros in 2025".
Housing
With an allocation of 18,474,551 euros, Lanzarote reinforces its position as a leader in public housing investment within the archipelago. This budget is aimed at the construction and promotion of public housing, "facilitating access to decent housing and strengthening the quality of life of families in Lanzarote and La Graciosa".
For the Youth Mortgage it will be 3,000,000 euros. The Government of the Canary Islands will finance up to 90% and has closed with banking entities that the interest rate of mortgages will be lower than that dictated by the market.
Health
In the press release they state that "health is a strategic pillar and a priority for Coalición Canaria in its island model", as evidenced by the commissioning under the government presided over by Fernando Clavijo of the Radiotherapy bunker, the Hemodynamics Unit and the Early Care Unit at the José Molina Orosa University Hospital, the three projects inherited from the previous term, "thus covering historical demands in health matters of the Lanzarote and Graciosa society".
