The Island Executive Committee of Coalición Canaria Lanzarote has asked the senator for the island, Manuel Fajardo Palarea, and the president of the Cabildo, Mª Dolores Corujo, "to abandon partisanship once and for all and demand a solution to the migration problem."

During the meeting held this Thursday night, the nationalists, led by the island secretary, Migdalia Machín, wondered "what is the function of a senator who does not defend his island, of a president who closes his eyes to the intention of the Ministry of the Interior to improvise with barracks a Center for Identification and Retention of Non-Resident Foreigners next to the Arrecife Police Station, and of an island director of the General State Administration, Juan Ramón Pérez, who is neither there nor expected, much less ensures the sanitary conditions and dignity of the people who arrive on the island irregularly."

“They keep arriving on our coasts with the hope of achieving a better life and all they achieve is that the competent authorities cram them together without minimum health conditions,” said Machín, who also regretted that “none of the ministers with powers in migration matters has been able to
show their condolences for all the people who have died in recent weeks.”

For his part, the organization secretary of CC Lanzarote, Echedey Eugenio, once again insisted on reminding the top socialist leaders on the island that "humanity must be above party lines" and that "although they should have stood up to the intentions of their bosses in Madrid a long time ago, they are still in
time to react and prevent the construction of a migrant identification and retention center based on containers."

“The State already has an underutilized military barracks that has ideal conditions to fulfill that function,” he indicated, insisting that both Dolores Corujo, Manuel Fajardo and Juan Ramón Pérez, “must demand from their party an urgent but sensitive political action at the same time, and forcefully reject an absolutely degrading measure.”

"The Canary Islands, and therefore also Lanzarote and La Graciosa, are suffering a much greater migration crisis than the one experienced in 2020 and this August has been one of the most tragic months experienced on the Canary route", the nationalists point out. In addition, they recall that this same Thursday, September 2, two more boats arrived on the coasts of Lanzarote, "with people fleeing from hunger, poverty, injustice, persecution and war."

"Meanwhile, on the island we have been waiting for the Comprehensive Exterior Surveillance System, SIVE, for two years, despite the fact that the Haría City Council has already reported on the most suitable location for it to be put into operation as soon as possible, and we continue without decent infrastructures to welcome all these people because those that could be used for this purpose do not have the approval of the State," they conclude.
