Coalición Canaria in the San Bartolomé City Council has accused the municipal government of the “disappearance” of cultural activities in the municipality. For this reason, it will present a motion to the next plenary session of the Corporation so that in 2022 “a wide cultural offer is provided that covers the demand of the citizens and guarantees the continuity of the workshops”.
“The users of the ceramics and clay and initiation to sculpture and modeling in ceramics workshops have been the latest affected by the neglect of this government group, which decided to end it in the middle of it”, assures the nationalist spokesperson in the Consistory, David Rocío.
David Rocío assures that these workshops “are subsidized” so that residents of the municipality can opt for these alternatives “at a reasonable price”.
“It is a shame that in just a few years we have gone from being a benchmark municipality in all these types of activities, to completely abandoning our customs. We have been left with hardly any traditional or cultural workshops that represent a leisure and learning alternative for our neighbors, because the City Council has no interest in our culture, has not been interested in generating new offers and has dedicated itself to mistreating the little that exists”, laments the CC mayor.
The nationalists of San Bartolomé say that they feel “healthy envy” of other municipalities, such as Teguise, where traditional culture “continues to be a benchmark”. “The realization of in-depth workshops, ceramics, rosetta, construction of timples, cutting and sewing, folklore, empleita, painting, making typical costumes, ballet, patchwork crafts, sign language, theater or traditional dances, etc.”, are some of the activities that nationalists say are carried out in Teguise.
