The Government of the Canary Islands has declared four days of official mourning in the autonomous community for the death of former President Manuel Hermoso Rojas. From this Tuesday until next Friday, June 20, the flags of all public centers dependent on the Autonomous Community will fly at half-staff.
The Adán Martín room at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host the funeral chapel for the former president from 4:00 p.m. this Tuesday.
Manuel Hermoso, President of the Canary Islands (1993-1999) and Vice President of the Autonomous Government (1991-1993), died this Tuesday, June 17, at the age of 89. Born on July 24, 1935 in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, he was also mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife (1979-1991) and served as a deputy for several years in both the Congress and the Parliament of the Canary Islands.
The declaration of several days of official mourning by the Government of the Canary Islands was already adopted on October 10, 2010, after the death of former President Adán Martín. Also after the death on November 21, 2023 of former President Jerónimo Saavedra and on February 2, 2024 of former President Lorenzo Olarte.
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, will attend this Tuesday, at 4:00 p.m., the arrival of the coffin at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Government of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where Manuel Hermoso will be watched over and will directly convey his condolences to family and friends.
