The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has denounced that, after 10 editions of Saborea Lanzarote, which has been held since 2011 every November in the Historic Site of the Villa, "the Teguise City Council, which should already be immersed in the coordination of the festival jointly with the Island Council, has no news of its whereabouts."
Oswaldo Betancort, as mayor of Teguise, regrets that nothing is known "when a few months ago we heard the president of the Cabildo say that the technicians of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries area of the First Island Institution are working on the organization of the 2022 edition of the Saborea Lanzarote Enogastronomic Festival.”
“That was in May, but as of today, neither Teguise nor all the agents involved in the business, restaurant and commercial sector of Lanzarote have been informed of what the future of Saborea Lanzarote will be, which leads us to think that the Socialist Party has eliminated it from the island agenda,” he adds.
“Indeed, the festival considered the largest gastronomic event in the Canary Islands and which brought together thousands of people around the innovation of an industry that has taken off with great force in Lanzarote and which has positioned our exquisite network of restaurants, our cuisine and our wines, was and should continue to be an island project,” says Betancort.
"We express our deepest regret that they put an end to so many years of work and a firm and determined commitment from many businessmen and institutions that placed Saborea among the best meetings in the sector.” And what is worse and very difficult to explain, is that so much effort now falls on deaf ears for reasons that, unfortunately, do not respond to objective, but partisan reasons,” concluded Betancort.
Teguise recalls that in its last edition before the pandemic, the Saborea Lanzarote Enogastronomic Festival brought together "more than 25,000 visitors in the Villa", who enjoyed more than 220,000 tastings, presentations and tastings, and the best chefs in the country with the best of environments in a unique heritage space in the Canary Islands, which since 2019 is, officially, “One of the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain”.
